Frequently Asked Questions

Please read trough our FAQ as it may answer some of the most asked questions about our Mobile Pet Grooming Service. Do Not hesitate to contact us if you do not see your question answered here. We are here to provide excellent service for you and your pet!

Does my dog or cat have to be up to date on his vaccinations?

Yes, you will need to provide a copy of your pet’s rabies and distemper vaccinations, along with your veterinarian’s name and phone number.  This is protection for your pet.

How often should I get my pet groomed?

On the average, dogs should be groomed every four to six weeks, cats every 6 to 8 weeks.  Of course, this depends on the owner’s ability to do daily brush outs.  It also depends on your pet’s breed, coat and how often your dog/cat is outside.  You may want your dog to be groomed on a tighter schedule to keep their cuts crisp.  Since we only have a couple mobile vans, you should try to “lock in” a recurring appointment to prevent an appointment not being available by enrolling in our free Preferred Client’s Program.

Does frequent bathing harm my pet's coat?

No, veterinarians will encourage you to have your pet groomed on a regular basis.  We use high quality shampoos and conditioners to help relieve dry, itchy skin.  Shampoos such as medicated, tearless, soothing oatmeal, relaxing lavender, tropical scents, Hypo “Aloe” Genic, just to name a few.

My dog/cat sheds all the time, any help for that?

Yes, we  can de-shed the coat during and after bathing which reduces shedding.

My dog/cat is really, really matted, what can you do for him?

We offer a relaxing, pain free grooming experience for your pet.  If your pet is severely matted, we would offer to shave down the coat using my longest length blade that will penetrate the mats.  If this is not acceptable to you, you might want to comb out the mats with particular attention to the stomach, underarms, and behind the ears before we arrive.  Just remember, it is more humane to cut down the coat and start all over again than to de-mat a heavily matted coat. Also, decreasing the time between appointments and/or settling for a different coat style could be discussed at this time.

My dog/cat has fleas. How do I get rid of them?

For flea removal we recommend a two step process.  First, we bathe the pet using environmentally friendly flea based natural shampoo which will eradicate the fleas presently on the pet and help soothe skin irritations caused by the flea bites. Secondly, we recommend monthly flea preventative treatment such as Nextguard, Advantix, Confortis, Frontline, etc.  There are many good products available.  Please check with your vet for a recommendation.

My dog is scared of water and hates being groomed.

We can help.  As groomers, we are used to handling reluctant dogs that don’t want to be bathed or groomed.  We use lots of pampering, TLC, and the occasional doggie treat.

What type of products will you use on my pet?

In an attempt to give our clients the best service, we use only premium shampoos and conditioners that are designed specifically for pets.  However, if you prefer that we use your pet shampoo, just provide us with it.  Some of the different shampoos we use are:  Flea and Tick, Relaxing Lavender, Tearless, Berry, Coconut Oatmeal, Medicated, Griminator, and Hypo”Aloe”Genic to name a few.

Do I have to be home for you to groom my pet?

We can make arrangements for grooming to be done without your presence.

Can you come to my office to groom my pet?

Yes, mobile grooming can be done anywhere there is a legal parking space!

What if the client needs to cancel their pet's appointment?

No problem, as long as you notify us 24 hours in advance of your appointment so that we can try to fill this time slot with another client’s pet. If it is less than 24 hours, please call me on my cell phone (201) 897-2280 thus saving us from driving to your residence.  If you do not call to cancel your appointment, a $35.00 fee will be assessed, which must be paid prior to your next appointment.

What type of payments do you accept?

We accept zelle, cash, checks, and credit cards (Master card, Visa, American Express, and Discover).  All grooming fees must be paid at the time of service.

Is mobile grooming more expensive than shop grooming?

Yes, usually around $50 more per pet.  For that extra money, you get the convenience of not making 2 trips to your local grooming shop and having to wait approximately 4 hours in between drop-off and pick-up time.  Your pet will also benefit from a less stressful environment with no barking dogs, no cages, and no wait time, with only us grooming your pet each and every time.

Do you need to plug into my electric outlet or use my water?

No, our van is a completely self-contained unit.  We have both warm fresh water and gray water tanks on board.  We will never empty my gray water on your property.  We have a generator that provides for all of my electrical needs.  The unit is always climate controlled.

How old should my puppy be before he gets his first groom?

It is good to have your puppy become familiar with grooming as early as possible after the first set of puppy shots, usually 12-16 weeks of age. This will help him learn at an early age that grooming is a pleasant experience.

Is my pet too old to be groomed?

Older pets often need special care and attention. We recommend the style be kept short and easy to maintain to keep the grooming process to a minimum amount of time.

Everything included for bathing plus a full cut / style based on breed standards and / or your specific requests, Nails trimmed, teeth and ears cleaned.

How often should I get my dog groomed?

To maintain a proper / manageable coat for non-shedding breeds such as Poodles, Bichons, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Terriers, you should have your dog groomed every 4-6 weeks. If they are kept in a very short cut, these breeds may be able to go 8-10 weeks. Breeds that have short, shedding coats can usually wait 8-12 weeks between grooming appointments, as long as they are brushed regularly at home.

How often do nails need trimming?

Generally a dog’s nails need trimming every 6 weeks.

Do I get the same groomer each time?

Most clients prefer to keep the same groomer. If your dog is nervous and / or you have specific requests, we find that coming back to the same groomer works best because it fosters a relationship between the client, groomer, and dog.

How long does it usually take?

Bath with no trim – ½ – 1 hours

Bath and trim for large dog or dog that has a lot of hair – 1½ – 2+ hours.

Matted it may take more time.

Your groomer will gladly call you just prior to or after your dog is finished.

If you need your dog groomed in less time, please explain your needs when making your appointment and we will do our best to find a day and time to accommodate your request.

What if I need my pet to stay longer than the time to groom him / her?

To minimize the stress on the dogs, we prefer they be picked up as soon after they are finished, as possible.

Can I bring a picture of how I want my dog styled?

Yes. The groomer will discuss your options and try to achieve the same result.

How is my dog dried?

We prefer hand drying all dogs with a variable speed, high velocity dryer. This allows us to get a better finished look as well as gives us a chance to get a good look at your dog’s skin to asses any potential health issues. If your dog does not tolerate this method, we will use a warm / non-heated air circulating fan to “air dry” the coat.

Can I stay with my dog and watch?

No, because dogs act out when they’re owners are around we prefer to keep it strictly 1 on 1.

It is not uncommon for dogs to get overly excited if they are able to see their owner, creating an unsafe condition for the dog.

My dog’s hair is knotted. Do I need to cut the hair short?

If the hair is allowed to knot or develop “matts”, it is unhealthy for the dog’s skin. It may be possible to “dematt” the coat, if it can be done without causing pain to the dog. Unfortunately, the process is often painful or can cause irritation to the dog’s skin. If your dog is matted, we will discuss with you what can be done.

Matted coats can cause a variety of skin and health problems. When your pet is extremely tangled, matted, or densely coated there are increased risks of stress, trauma, and / or injury. If possible, we will carefully de-mat your pet’s coat.

If the coat is severely matted or we determine that de-matting would be in-humane for your pet, we will need to remove the coat with clippers. Please feel free to discuss your pet’s needs and our dematt policy with one of our pet stylists.

Can you groom my dog to the breed standard?

Our groomers are familiar with most of the breed standards and are very experienced with more popular breeds. Many clients do not groom to the breed standard because of the maintenance required. Also, we encourage you to bring in pictures of previous grooms, if available.

What if I want something changed or redone after my dog is finished?

Your satisfaction is very important to us! If you notice something we can often take care of it for you prior to leaving. If you notice something after you leave, we ask that you give us a call within 48 hours so we can arrange a time to tweak the groom while it is still relatively fresh.

Can I bring my own shampoo?

Absolutely, although our top-rated product line is designed to promote a healthy coat and skin.

If your veterinarian has prescribed or suggested an alternate shampoo rather than our product line, we will gladly use it. Please note, many prescribed shampoos / conditioners require 5-10 minutes of contact time. If this is the case, our bather will stay with your dog and gently massage the product into their coat and skin. An additional fee will be added for this time.

What are anal glands?

These are scent sacs found right under your dog’s tail. Some dogs empty them naturally, some do not. Please consult with your veterinarian.

Do you accept tips?

Absolutely, tips are always appreciated.
